Alternative Teacher Licensure Program
The fastest way to promote student learning is to ensure that all teachers are highly qualified in their content area. The Alternative Teacher Licensure Program provides tuition support to individuals who have come into teaching from another profession, so they can become a licensed teacher.
This program is critical to the success of our students, particularly at the secondary level. We typically support 10-13 individuals who have come into the teaching profession from other career fields. For their first year in the district, they are supported by our Human Resources department with a mentor, as well as a financial contribution toward their tuition.
The Five Star Education Foundation provides supplemental tuition support to these candidates in order to lessen the financial burden of attending college. The evidence is clear that new teachers who are mentored, and supported in their first year of teaching clearly demonstrate positive results in terms of student achievement.
