Resource NETWORK
The Five Star Education Foundation created and maintains emergency resource closets at local schools and a district administrative building, in partnership with the Office of Whole Child Initiatives, to provide immediate basic needs assistance to students and families in need. Too many students come to school hungry, exhausted, and without the hygiene and clothing resources their peers have at the start of each day. To be learning-ready students must be warm, safe, and fed. Schools are the hub of the community and are in the best position to respond immediately when a child and their family are in need. Resource closets are a tool that fosters trust and security and allows students to be part of a community of learners.

The Five Star Resource Closet program is transforming into the Resource Network supporting a three-tier support network through Adams 12 Five Star Schools in partnership with the Office of Whole Child Initiatives. Click the graphic below for a breakdown.
Five Star Resource Closets, supported by the Five Star Education Foundation and in collaboration with A Precious Child and Food for Hope, have been available to Five Star families since 2020. This initiative would not be possible without substantial investment from the Adams County Foundation, the Safeway and Albertsons Foundation, the Kaiser Foundation, and ongoing community support from donors like YOU. This good work would not be possible without our Five Star community.

This summer, Northglenn High School welcomed 50 high school students and 55 middle school students for a dynamic Newcomer Summer Explorers program. The students received English Language Development instruction from a dedicated team of six certified teachers and ten multilingual support staff. Alongside their academic lessons, students enjoyed daily physical activities, outdoor games, and social gatherings, all designed to promote social-emotional growth and overall wellness. The program coordinator reflected on the enriching experience, stating, "Everyone involved in the program seemed to really enjoy working with each other and learning about each other's cultures. The campus supervisors for summer school all shared with me individually how they enjoyed learning about the students and their stories. Staff brought in food, shared dances, students showcased their henna talents, and one student even brought Venezuelan food to share on field day." A highlight of this year's program was the incredible cultural diversity among the students. Unlike previous years, which were primarily Afghan-focused, this summer saw a wide array of cultures and languages represented. The multilingual staff, collectively speaking eight languages, played a crucial role in supporting and celebrating this diversity, making the program a vibrant, inclusive, and educational experience for all. This good work is supported through the capacity-building work of the Five Star Education Foundation. Thank you to the Adams County Government for being a generous supporter of Adams 12 students and our growing community.
